CBC Music's Rich Terfry (Buck 65) has referred to Kyla's sound as "Ghostly Beauty" and said of her single Is This, "... you really enjoy how the song is crafted, just the atmosphere of it, the feeling that it gives you when you listen to it. There's a real haunting quality about it." Ky likes a fresh idea, the presence of an improvised moment, a joke taken too far, complex thought, and emotional honesty. She loves discovery, and the illumination of truth.
